Praxis I and Praxis II Tests Required for
Teacher Licensure in the State of
Indiana
NOTE!
Academic
advisers and School of Education License Advisers will help students identify
appropriate testing requirements.
Each
student, however, has the final responsibility for all decisions and actions in
identifying requirements for testing, arranging for taking tests, and insuring
that test results are transmitted to the School of Education.

Praxis I
Tests
All candidates for initial licensure in
Indiana must complete Praxis I tests in reading, writing, and math. Either
Pre-professional skills tests (PPST) or Computer Based Tests (C-PPST) (or a mix of
the two types) are
acceptable. C-PPST tests may be taken
only once during any 60-day period. Test
codes, test names, and qualifying scores for Praxis I tests are:

Praxis
II Tests
Praxis II tests are referred to as
either “content area tests” or as “specialty area tests.”
A candidate for licensure must obtain passing scores for all tests in the
content areas of their teaching major.
Depending on a candidate’s teaching major, this requirement could mean
taking and passing more than one content area test. Current provisions of Indiana State law allow
candidates to be licensed in minor areas without taking a Praxis
II test in those content areas. Elementary Education majors who are adding an endorsement area in Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies must take a Praxis II test in the area of endorsement. Test
codes, test names, and qualifying scores for Praxis II tests are listed below
